1942 - 2017
AUGUSTA - William E. Barrows, Jr. passed away on Monday, Nov. 6, 2017, at the age of 75. He was born in Augusta on Sept. 10, 1942, the son of William E. Barrows, Sr. and Eula (Stratton) Barrows.
He attended Cony High School for a short time before being employed at the Augusta House for a few years as a bellhop. Later on he worked for various companies as a truck driver. He owned and operated his own tractor trailer and was an over the road truck driver for many years.
Bill enjoyed spending time with friends and family and loved his children and grandchildren very much. He liked going to the casino and tinkering on lawnmowers and cars and was a man who would help anyone in need. He was also an excellent carpenter. Over the years Bill and his son, Alan, traveled to Loudon, N.H. where they enjoyed camping out and watching NASCAR.
Bill was predeceased by his parents; a son, Emery "Butch" Barrows; and a grandson, T.J. Ladd.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Toni Cheney Barrows; his sons, William E. Barrows III and his wife, Dee, of Westbrook and Alan L. Barrows and his girlfriend, Jenn Merrow, of Clinton, two daughters, Eula DeRocle and husband, Mike, of Norridgewock and Janice Harmon and husband, Mike, of Embden; three brothers, Ralph M. Barrows, Richard A. Barrows and wife, Theresa, and Kenneth Barrows, all of Augusta; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held Saturday, Dec. 2, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the North Augusta Trailblazers, 133 Burns Rd., Augusta.
