Walter M. Gamblin Jr.
1929 - 2018
DETROIT - Walter M. Gamblin Jr., 88, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 2, 2018, in Pittsfield.
Walt was born on Dec. 28, 1929, in Fort Fairfield, the son of the late Walter and Delilah (Duplisea) Gamblin Sr. He held several different jobs over the years, including employment at the Corinna Woolen Mill and Northeast Shoe, but his favorite was working with his hands in carpentry.
Walt loved a good meal and especially enjoyed dessert. He was a prankster and liked to tease those that he loved. His wife was the main focus of his life and he took great care of her. He loved family gatherings, and was the rock of the family. He took great pride in his furniture making and enjoyed helping others with any project that they had going. He was always the happiest when he could pound a nail. His grandchildren and great grandchildren lovingly called him "Grampy", "Big Grampy" and "Grampy Grampy". He will be missed very much.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Edith Gamblin of Detroit; his children: Diane Lasselle of Pittsfield, Linda Bubier (Chuck) of Canaan, Larry Gamblin (Karen) of Detroit and Nancy Schwarz (Paul) of Singer Island, Fla.; seven grandsons: Merlon Lasselle (Cindy), Clint Lasselle (Anne), Stacy Lary (Tonja), Chris Lary (Tasha), Reggie Gamblin (Cathy), Dan Lary (Lyn) and Ryan Gamblin; 14 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his eight siblings: John, Trudy, Basil, Mildred, Syretha, Reggie, Philip and Lawrence.
A celebration of his life will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Sunday, July 15, 2018, at Walt and Edith's Home. All are welcome. A committal service will be held at a later date.
