Rita Belisle Kanaris
1956 - 2018
GARDINER - Rita Belisle Kanaris, 61, of Gardiner, passed away unexpectedly at her home on May 11, 2018.
Rita was born in Augusta on Sept. 18, 1956, the daughter of Arthur J. and Leona (Breton) Belisle.
Rita was most recently employed by Granite Hill Estates, where she worked as a waitress, and prior to that, Riverview Psychiatric Center, as a dental assistant for many years.
One of Rita's favorite things in life, was enjoying her family, friends and grandchildren. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Arie 3137, VFW Post #887, and American Legion Post #4.
Rita was predeceased by her mother, Leona; father, Arthur; sisters, Bernadette and Germaine; a longtime partner, Donald Austin; a nephew, Ray Weeks Jr.; and a niece, Wanda Lewis.
She is survived by her ex-husband, Michael Kanaris, of Augusta; her sister, Theresa Millett and her husband, Craig, of Chelsea; two brothers, Brian Belisle and his significant other, Melanie, of Sidney, and Robert Weymouth and his wife, Kathy, of Belgrade; brother-in-law, Ray Weeks Sr., of Chelsea; three children: son, Lance Kanaris and his signifcant other, Nicole Breedlove (and their children, Abrielle and Blaise Tripp, and Delanie and Chase Kanaris, of Gardiner); son, Lee Kanaris and his significant other, Jessie Woods (and their children, Cameron Woods, Jayden, Nevaeh and Landon Kanaris, of Augusta); daughter, Micah Kanaris and her significant other, Jonathan Downs, and their son, Domenic Downs, of Windsor.
She also leaves behind many special nieces, nephews and cousins, friends, and Donald's three children, all whom she loved dearly.
A Catholic Mass will be held for Rita at St. Augustine Church in Augusta on May 21, 2018, at 11 a.m. Celebration of Life will be held, May 26, 2018, at the American Legion in Gardiner from 1-4 p.m.
