1914 - 2015
SOUTH GARDINER - Rinaldo J. Colby of South Gardiner, passed away on the evening of March 9, 2015, at the age of 100. He was born in Auburn on Nov. 5, 1914.
In his youth he played the sax and clarinet in a band. He was a US Army veteran who fought in WWII as a Lieutenant. He continued his education in Bates Collage and Columbia University earning his masters degree.
Rinaldo taught english in Bellmore School District located in Long Island, N.Y., for 20 years. After retirement he wrote a novel. He moved to Las Vegas, Nev., to live near his children.
Rinaldo was preceded in death by his brothers, Ira and David, and sister Leola; along with his beloved son Ronaldo David Colby. Rinaldo is survived by ex-wife, Doris Colby; Constance Savey, his daughter; and five grandsons, Joshua, Eric and Sam Colby and Jason and Michael Savey; along with seven great-grandsons, Noah, Stone and Tristan Colby, and Justin, Anthony, Devon and Dylan Savey, not to forget his great-granddaughter Sierra Sue Colby.
To survive past 100 year old is a feat in itself.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Burial will be in the spring in the family lot at Mt. Hope Cemetery, South Gardiner.
