Phyllis Waddell Wing
1932 - 2018
MANCHESTER - Phyllis Waddell Wing, 85, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. She was born on Nov. 4, 1932, in Gloucester, Mass. to Jesse and Doris (Malonson) Waddell.
She married John E. Wing on April 30, 1951. They had three daughters, Donna Staples and Sharon Wing of Manchester and Tina Webber and her husband Bob of Augusta. Besides being a homemaker, she worked at Jacques Turkey Farm where she and her mother made turkey pies. She also worked at Lipman's Poultry, Hazzard Shoe Company and Bates Manufacturing. Phyllis worked with her husband on their little farm, driving tractor, haying and cutting wood. They also worked together on their trash route in Belgrade. She cared for her grandchildren and loved knitting, sewing, cross stitch and reading. She loved baking and always had desserts in the house for her family and her girl's friends. Their friends still speak of her cakes with lots of frosting.
She was predeceased by her parents; a son John Wing Jr.; two brothers, Robert and Eugene Waddell, a sister-in-law Beverly Waddell, and a brother-in-law Roy Wing.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 67 years; her daughters and her grandchildren Richard Nickless and his wife Jennifer of Gardiner; Melissa Goucher and her husband Doug of Winthrop; Kimberly Parlin of Pittston; Jerry Parlin and his wife Vanessa of Winthrop, and Lisa Willett and her husband Eric of Sidney; as well as six great grandchildren, Megan, Zachary, Hannah, Caleb, Zoey and Maxwell., several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-6pm on Thursday, July 5 at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One church St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Scribner Hill Cemetery, Manchester. There will be a reception at the Manchester Lions Club immediately following the burial.
