Penelope "Penny" Polleys
1942 - 2017
SAN PEDRO, Calif. - Penny Polleys, 74, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 6, 2017, at Jeanne Jugan Residence in San Pedro, Calif.
She was born in Lewiston, to Stephen Polleys and Marinda Whittier Polleys, on Dec. 13, 1942.
Penny was a 1960 graduate of Gardiner High School and a 1964 graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, graduating from both with honors. She earned a two-year nursing degree in California before joining the convent of the Little Sisters of the Poor (L.S.P.).
While serving in this nursing order, Penny lived in many states, as well as France and Hong Kong.
After leaving the L.S.P., she attended graduate school, earning a masters in guidance. As her health deteriorated, Penny was devotedly and lovingly cared for by the nuns of the Little Sisters of the Poor until her death.
She visited her family whenever possible and adored her niece Kim and grandnephews Nate and Braden. Penny was an avid reader, constant student, merciless game player, and loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She forever had a heart for the poor and homeless.
She was predeceased by her father and mother.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia Bragg; brother-in-law, John Bragg, of Canaan; niece Kimberly Bonneau, of Skowhegan; and her twin grandnephews, Nathanial and Braden Higgins, of Skowhegan.
A celebration of her life will be held in San Pedro, Calif. Her burial will be held at the Riverside Cemetery in Farmington, Maine, at a later time.
