WATERVILLE - Paul R. LaVerdiere, 82, of Waterville, passed away peacefully Monday, July 30, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family and Tina, one of his favorite caregivers.
He was born in Waterville in 1936, the son of Evariste and Lillian (Cyr) LaVerdiere. As a dearly loved member of the Waterville community, he will be greatly missed by many. Charming and gregarious, Paul greeted everyone with a smile and befriended all he met. He was a faithful attendant at St. Joseph's Maronite Catholic Church for 60 years.
Paul attended Coburn Classical Institute, Fordham University and was a graduate of Colby College in 1959. His early career was spent in the family business, LaVerdiere's Drug Stores. He owned a sporting goods store, a lounge, and an insurance company, spending most of his remaining years involved in the insurance industry. Paul served his country for four years as a U.S. Army Sergeant, and his community for two terms as mayor of Waterville leading his city well. He was an excellent jazz saxophonist and would always be up for playing a beautiful song or two for his grandchildren.
Paul was predeceased by his parents; and three of his siblings, Reginald LaVerdiere, Marcella (LaVerdiere) O'Halloran, and Delores (LaVerdiere) Abbott, and his beautiful wife Charlene (Ferris) LaVerdiere.
He is survived by his two sons, Scott LaVerdiere and Bruce LaVerdiere and his two daughters, Audrey (LaVerdiere) Yotides and Susan (LaVerdiere) Gauthier; his sister Elaine (LaVerdiere) Cole; eight adoring grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other loving relatives and caregivers.
