Paul L. Sousa
1936 - 2018
MANCHESTER - Paul Louis Sousa of Higganum, Conn. and Summer Haven (Manchester, Maine), died peacefully at his home on Aug. 2, 2018. He was born in Augusta, Maine on June 18, 1936 to Lora Boulay and Manuel Sousa Jr., and was mentored by Reverend Joseph LeMaster of Maine.
Paul is survived by wife, Sonja Granat Sousa of Higganum, Conn.; son, David Sousa and his wife, Rosemary, of Ivoryton, Conn.; and grandson Michael Sousa of Coventry, Conn.; Sonja's children Tanja Moriarty of Higganum, Conn., Brenda Buzzi of Higganum, Conn., Edward Buzzi of McLean, Va., Andrew Buzzi of Higganum, Conn.; many grandchildren; and Paul's nieces and nephews, Tina LaJoie, Roger Bachelder, Edward Bachelder, and Donna Moore, in Maine.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Randlette Sousa; grandson, Eric Sousa; sister, Loretta Bachelder; niece, Jeannie Norton; and beloved dog, Snoopy.
Paul served in the U.S. Air Force as a cook and was a supervisor at Raymond Engineering of Middletown, Conn. He was a member of the Raymond Engineering Bowling League for many years. Paul enjoyed hunting and was an avid fisherman, especially deepsea fishing on his Grady White fishing boat on the Long Island Sound. Paul had a passion for cooking, and was famous for his shrimp scampi, BBQ chicken, and smoked salmon dishes.
A graveside service will be held at the Monmouth Ridge Cemetery on Sunday Aug. 12, 2018 at 1 p.m.
