WEST GARDINER - Patricia "Patty" Ellen Porter passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at her home in West Gardiner, after a lengthy battle against several illnesses.

Born, Jan. 29, 1951, she is predeceased by her mother, Alberta Titcomb and her father, Gerhard Pontau, both of Wiscasset; as well as both of her husbands, Merle Benner of Richmond and John Porter of West Gardiner.

A Wiscasset High School, Class of '69, graduate, Patty was a loving mother and homemaker. In addition to raising her children, she spent several years helping to run the very successful Huber's Market, which was located on Route 1 in Wiscasset. She also spent several years helping women by donating her time to the Rape Crisis Hotline.

Among the many passions in her life were family, friends, her dogs and camping/traveling. She always enjoyed going to her brothers' camps in Windsor, whether it was to celebrate the 4th of July or to just have a cookout. She also loved camping, especially at Duck Puddle Campground in Nobleboro, in addition to traveling with husband, John, to such places as Utah and Las Vegas. Among her fondest memories were the frequent trips to Foxwoods or Oxford Casinos with her mother, her mother's friend, Russell, her aunt, Ann as well as her daughter, Alison.

Patty is survived by her two children, son, Jody Alan Benner of Lafayette, Ind. and daughter, Alison Marie Allen of Augusta. In addition, she leaves behind three brothers, Bob Pontau, Mike Pontau and Scott Pontau, all of Wiscasset, along with half brother, Gerhard "Butch" Pontau of Westbrook. Finally, she has three grandchildren, Brady Duncan of Saco, Kate Benner and Luke Benner, both of Lafayette, Ind. These are all in addition to the numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews she has, throughout the state of Maine.

Patty's wishes were cremation, to be followed by a celebration of her life, to be held on Sunday Dec. 23, from 2-5 p.m. at the Wiscasset Community Center, 242 Gardiner Road, Wiscasset. Internment at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset, for immediate family, to be held in the spring.

Arrangements are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner.
