Patricia (Spear) Bennett
1940 - 2016
GARDINER - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia (Spear) Bennett, 75, on Feb. 3, 2016, at Augusta Rehabilitation, after a long battle with the degenerative disorder, ataxia.
Pat was born in Gardiner on Oct. 26, 1940, the daughter of the late Herman and Marguerite Spear of Randolph. Pat graduated from Gardiner Area High School Class of 1958. Pat worked many years as a meat cutter and waitress before starting her career with Gardiner Savings Institution in 1977 as a teller, eventually working her way to branch manager in Hallowell before retiring after 25 years in 2002.
Pat was predeceased by her first husband, Donald Johnson, in 1979; her second husband, Fred Bennett, in 1998; and a son, Gregory D. Johnson, in 2008.
She is survived by a brother, Richard Spear of Bangor; and two sons, Jeffrey M. Johnson of Chelsea and Todd A. Johnson of West Gardiner; a granddaughter, Jessica M. Johnson of Randolph; and a grandson, Stephen G. Johnson of Fort Bragg, N.C. Pat also leaves behind her loving fiancé and companion of 18 years, Robert Hamlin.
Pat was a member of Gardiner Elks, American Legion, and Eagles Club.
We cannot thank Bob enough for being a true companion to Pat until the very end. We would also like to give a heartfelt thanks to Augusta Rehabilitation and Hospice who cared so compassionately for her.
At Pat's request, there will be no public visiting hours, and her final wishes were to be cremated. Thoughts and condolences may be sent to the family at:
