She was born in Livermore Falls on Dec. 9, 1929, the fourth child of Ronald and Lovina (Morse) Hardy.

She was educated in Livermore Falls area schools until her sophomore year when her family moved to Augusta. She graduated from Cony High School and became an active member of the class of 1948. She became a stay at home "Mom" for 17 years, raising her children. During this time she was active with the Jaycee Wives and served as Treasurer and President. She took a fulltime job at Nicholson & Ryan as a full charged bookkeeper, working there for 26 years. She said she had the greatest bosses in the world, Bennett Katz and James Dowling.

Marilyn made a lot of friends and played a lot of bridge, which became an ever-lasting passion. She also played tennis, bowling and golf. She belonged to the Augusta Country Club for 44 years, played in many tournaments and had a "hole-in-one". After her retirement, they moved to their condo overlooking Cobbossee Lake in Winthrop, where they had many family gatherings and enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren. All will miss her. She was predeceased by her parents Ronald and Lovina; three brothers, Blaine, Wendall and Clayton Hardy; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Hardy and Medora Hardy.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Coughlin and her husband John of Topsham; Mary Jane Hinds and her husband Chuck of Augusta, and Judy Maloney and her husband Mark of Portland; six grandchildren, Katie Vickers and her husband Dave of Oakland, Mary Beth Neault and her husband Josh of Brunswick, Kim Perry and her husband Kevin of Manchester, N.H., Scott Hinds of Portland, Matt Maloney and Meghan Maloney, both of Portland; four great-grandchildren, Madison and Payton Neault both of Brunswick, Khloe and Kamryn Perry, both of Manchester, N.H.; a sister, Thelma Connolly and her husband Steve of Cape Cod; a sister-in-law, Lolita Tucker of Sumner; as well as many nieces and nephews.
