Marilyn (Langley) Butler
1936 - 2016
CARMEL & BANGOR – Marilyn went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Jan. 16, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Jan. 20, 1936 in Newport, the daughter of the late Alfred and Gladys (Kilcollins) Langley. Marilyn grew up in Pittsfield. She was one of 10 siblings. They were well known in the area as the "Langley Girls."
Marilyn graduated from MCI in 1955. She was employed as a telephone operator with New England Telephone. She married James Butler in June 1958, and left her job to raise their six children. They lived in Plymouth and Carmel. She was the secretary of the Carmel Full Gospel Church and belonged to the VFW Auxiliary #9955 in Pittsfield. She helped James own and operate Carmel Auto Repair. They enjoyed many family camping trips to Dummer's Beach and Prince Edward Island. Once her children were grown, Marilyn accompanied James on many over the road trips while he drove as an independent trucker. He was truly the love of her life.
She enjoyed scrapbooking, knitting, taking photos and using the computer to create personalized items for friends and family. She would knit baby sweaters, buntings and blankets for all "new arrivals" in the family. She also enjoyed cooking for her family. Marilyn was active in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had so much love to give and she was loved dearly by them all. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by a sister, Ruth Walker and a brother, Phillip Langley, both of Florida; six children, Kathy and Tom Neill of St. Albans, Vicky and Colby Morrell of Carmel, James W. Butler, Jr. of Bangor, Jill and Matthew Lovley of Astatula, Fla., Mark and Crystal Butler of Carmel, Melissa King and Heidi Hellstrom of Arundel; 13 grandchildren, Emily McDonough, Kelly Lovley, Thomas J Neill, Ashley Butler, Stacey Morrell, Benjamin Butler, Jennifer Fitzgerald, Dustin King, Darin King, Julia Butler, Emily Shorey, Ashley and Eric Hellstrom; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by James on Oct. 9, 2014; six sisters, Barbara Langley, Anita McCormack, Pat Laney, Thelma "Dee" Madore, Edna Chadbourne, Gloria Bilodeau; and a brother Alfred "Sonny" Langley.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, with Pastor Brian Woodbury officiating. Spring graveside committal services will be held 2 p.m., Monday, May 2, 2016 at Riverside Cemetery, Newport.
The family would like to express a special thank you to all those who cared for Marilyn during this past year.
