Obituary

SEARSMONT - Marie M. Perkins, 81, of Searsmont, and formerly of East Winthrop, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at Maine General Rehabilitation and Long Term Care at Glenridge, in Augusta.

She was born in Boston, Mass., on April 15, 1937, the daughter of Woodbury and Janet (Robb) Mallard.

Marie graduated from the Girls Latin School in Boston and attended Northeastern University. She had worked at the Lahey Clinic in Boston where she met her future husband Kenneth Perkins. They were married on July 12, 1958. In 1971, the family moved to East Winthrop. For 20 years, both Marie and Ken did volunteer mediator work for the Attorneys General office.

Marie was an excellent tole painter and an avid reader. She especially loved the stories and history of the British and English Isles. She collected Hummel figurines and enjoyed a good game of canasta. Marie loved animals, especially dogs, but one of her favorite pastimes was "marathon shopping" with her family and friends. She was a former member of the Winthrop Center Friends Church and the Pond Town Quaker Meeting.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Glenridge, as well as MaineGeneral Hospice, for the care and compassion shown to Marie during her stay there.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth B. Perkins, of Searsmont; her three children, Scott K. Perkins, of Searsmont, Cheryl M. Mallard and her husband, Ronald E. Goldstein, of Searsmont, and Robert Perkins and his wife, Irene, of Winthrop; two grandchildren, Lea R. Goldstein and her partner, Benjamin M. McPherson, of Montville, and Noah B. Goldstein and his wife, Erin, of Hingham, Mass. She is also survived by her "Daughter in Spirit", Rebecca Hewett, of East Winthrop.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where condolences, memories and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the website at www.familyfirstfuneralhomes.com.
