WATERVILLE - Leland W. Willette, 89, passed away peacefully Oct. 31, 2018, at the Maine Veterans Hospice in Augusta. He was born in Millinocket on Dec.17, 1928, the son of William and Gertrude (Cyr) Ouellette.At the age of seven, his family moved to New Jersey. When he was a teen, they moved back home to Waterville. He then joined the United States Air Force in 1950 during the Korean War. He served at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska as a Staff Sergeant in charge of 13 men. He then became part of the military police, he was transferred to Eglin air Force Base. His last duty was at Andrews Air Force Base as a military policeman at the Pentagon.While in New Jersey, he worked construction on Long Island, N.Y. He came back to live in Waterville, then worked for Violette Construction, before opening his own construction business. On May 22, 1954, he married Geneva Melanson and they lived together for 51 years and had two children, Karen and Paul. In 2017, he was diagnosed with cancer and fought the disease with courage. Leland is survived by his daughter Karen Bouchard and husband Blaine of Waterville, son Paul Willette and wife Ann of Waterville; grandchildren Bill Bouchard and wife Laurie of Fairfield, Ryan Bouchard and wife Stephanie of Waterville, Heather Buck and husband Nick of Fairfield, Tyler Willette of Boston, Mass., and Alice Willette; great- grandchildren, Joshua, Nathan, Ethan, Jamison, Colin, Lauren, and Jackson; one great-great-grandson, Sebastian.A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Silver Street, Waterville. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville.Arrangements under the direction and care of Dan & Scott's Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan, ME 04976. In lieu of flowers, donations in Leland's memory may be made to the:Humane Society Waterville Area100 Webb Rd.Waterville, ME 04901
