AUGUSTA - Jon Thomas Misner, 53, of Waterville, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at Maine General Medical Center, in Augusta.

Tom was born in Farmington on Nov. 23, 1965, and grew up in Manchester, attending the University of Maine and University of Southern Maine, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business. In 1990, he married his best friend, Renae Morse Misner, of Hampden.

In the fall of 1998, Tom accepted a position as Executive Director of the Waterville Opera House. He was excited to be involved in the arts on a daily basis and work with the community to enrich the arts for young and old, alike. He was instrumental in bringing Missoula Children's Theater to the Opera House, a program that continues today. In 2005 Tom began working for Arts Management Systems. He remained with this company, traveling all around North America for the remainder of his life. He truly loved working for this company and the friendships he experienced were like no other.

Tom always showed great talent in music and theater, and spent much of his time following his passion both on stage and behind the scenes. As a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, Tom was involved in every aspect of the organization from singing in quartets and choruses, to managing shows and competitions. One of the highlights of his Barbershop journey was singing with his wife, Renae, and two great friends in a mixed quartet. Their love of music and each other echoed in every chord they rang.

Tom reveled in the many visits with his family to the happiest place on earth, Walt Disney World. The permanent smile he wore reflected the sheer joy he felt at that special place, and he beamed with pride, sharing it with his children, extended family and friends.

Tom is survived by his wife, Renae, of Waterville; his two sons, Ben and fiancée, Emily Cote, of Hallowell, and Alex, of Waterville; his mother, Susan Misner, of Hallowell; three sisters, Christina (and Sid) Rao, of Manchester, Jennifer (and Scott) Small, of Augusta, Anne (and Don) Coutinho, of Davenport, Fla., a brother, David Misner, of Seattle, Wash.; and many nephews and nieces. The family is looking forward to the arrival of Tom's grandson, Elliott Thomas Misner, in April.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.; the service will be held Thursday, Jan. 10, at 3:30 p.m. Both gatherings will be at the Skowhegan Federated Church, 13 Island Ave., Skowhegan.
