AUGUSTA - 1951 - 2018 Janet L Cochrane, 67, died unexpectedly from complications of surgery on September 22, 2018 at Maine General in Augusta, Maine.
Janet was born on June 11, 1951 in Bay Shore, NY to Robert W & Pearl M (Wood) Vitolo. After moving to Maine as a child, she made this state her forever home. She is survived by her children, Edward W and his wife Susane, and Michelle L, all of Central Maine.
Jan is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward M Cochrane. Jan married Eddie, a long-time employee of Scott/Sappi Paper Co, on August 23, 1969. Throughout their lives together, the couple gladly welcomed all friends and family into their home, a tradition carried on by Janet following Ed's passing in March of 2004.
Jan was most passionate about her grandchildren, Kaylee, Alyson and Ethan Cochrane as well as Bailey Davis and Alicia Bolduc. In this world, there were none more important, more loved than these kids to whom she offered her time, her help, her love and a warm blanket. Had it been possible, Grammie would have given them the world.
Janet is also survived by siblings, Thomas W Vitolo of Oregon, Gloria P Jacobs of California & Frances C Vitolo of Maine to whom she was a dear sister who offered advice and guidance whether requested or not yet always with the best intentions and a warm heart.
Janet was also passionate about friendships. She attended then became actively involved in the Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area Widow & Widower's Group, helping others who had suffered great loss. She was a devout Christian and new member of the Centerpoint Community Church. She attended water aerobics classes at the 'Y' and often enjoyed card games where many more friendships thrived. Janet maintained friendships from her childhood, her many affiliations throughout her life and was loved by all who knew and treasured her kind spirit.
Jan was a member of the Waterville High School class of 1969. She held degrees in Computer Science and Special Education, retiring from the latter after several years of teaching.
Deeply affected by Janet's passing, we will remember her loving attention and concern for the well-being of those she loved. This is a difficult time for Janet's family and friends in Maine as well as those in Zephyrhills, Florida, where she would spend the winter months.
A celebration of Jan's life is scheduled on October 10th, time and place to be determined. Condolences may be made at www.veilleuxfuneralhome.com
