1923 - 2017
NORRIDGEWOCK - Jack L. West, 94, of Norridgewock, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, in Portland.
He was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Lebanon, Indiana, the son of Harry West and Mary (Dale) West.
Jack served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was in the Northwest District, helping to make sure supplies got through to Alaska.
He owned and operated Nursery Fotos in Costa Mesa, California, for 30 years. He also taught basic photograph, in adult education at community college.
Jack was a Mason and a Shriner for many years, a member of the VFW and the American Legion, and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
He was a private pilot who loved to fly his own planes, a Culver Cadet and a SeaRey. He and his wife Mary drove cross-country from Maine to California and back, for 16 years. Jack was also an avid collector of Tom Mix memorabilia.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mary, of Norridgewock; his stepdaughter, Kathy Vasquez, and her husband Dennis, of Hemet, Calif.; his stepson, Kevin McNulty, of Landers, Calif.; two stepgrandsons, "Capt." Maxwell Matthewson, and his wife Jess, of Corona, Calif.; and Phillip Vasquez, of Hemet, Calif.; a stepgreat-grandson, CJ Matthewson, of Corona, Calif.; cousin, Valerie Sirois, of Norridgewock; and a nephew, Tom West, of Healdsburg, Calif.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at 5 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
