WATERVILLE - Irene C. LeBrun, 85, of Waterville passed away peacefully at Woodlands Assisted Living in Waterville on Feb. 3, 2019.

Irene was born in Winslow on May 3, 1933, the daughter of Harry and Jeannette (Poulin) LeBrun. She graduated from Morse High School in Bath. She later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving from 1953 to 1956 and she was very proud of her time spent in the Corps.

After returning home from the Marines, Irene held various jobs from being a waitress in a diner to working with children at a polio foundation. After moving to Waterville, Irene decided to enter nursing school and became an LPN. She worked seven years at the VA Hospital in Togus, but returned to work at Mid-Maine Medical Center, now MaineGeneral, for most of her nursing career. She had worked in various departments, but for the last 16 years worked in ICU at the Thayer Campus. Towards the end of her working career, Irene transferred to the hospital's supply, processing and distribution department until her retirement in 1996.

Irene enjoyed fishing, her flower gardens and watching various birds in her backyard. She also loved music and played the harmonica extremely well even up to age 85, playing for other residents and visitors at Woodlands where she resided since 2016. She was a caring and giving person throughout her life. She was dedicated to her family and was a devout Catholic and communicant of Corpus Christi Parish in Waterville.

Irene is survived by her brother, Joseph Paul LeBrun and his wife Mary Ann, of Austin, Texas as well as other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Mary Jane (Lucille) LeBrun.

Special thanks to longtime family friend, Clara St. Pierre for providing care and assistance to Irene for several years. Also, thank you to Woodlands Assisted Living of Waterville, Lynn Cote, FNP, MaineGeneral Medical Center and MaineGeneral Hospice of Waterville for all their care and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday Feb. 11, 2019, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 112 Silver St., Waterville. Burial will follow and will be private in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove St., Waterville. Please visit www.veilleuxfuneralhome.com to share condolences, memories and tributes with her family.
