Obituary

DETROIT - Edith A. Gamblin, 89, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, in Skowhegan.

Edith was born on July 23, 1929, in Palmyra, the daughter of the late Freeman and Alice (Goodridge) Rollins. She graduated from Unity High School with high honors. She married the love of her life, Walter Murray Gamblin Jr. and they shared 69 wonderful years together. She worked for many years at the former, Northeast Shoe, and retired from SAS.

Edith was the glue that held the family together. She loved to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an "amazing" cook and was known for her yeast rolls, coleslaw, date filled cookies, and her famous New England boiled dinner. She enjoyed going to yard sales and shopping at the Pennywise store. She was known to sneak in her purchases when Murray wasn't home! She had beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and loved to pick berries, especially strawberries. Edith always made sure that Murray had his sugar-free freezer jam. She was a loving wife, mom and Grammie. She will be missed so very much.

She is survived by her children: Diane Lasselle of Pittsfield, Linda Bubier (Chuck) of Canaan, Larry Gamblin (Karen) of Detroit and Nancy Schwarz (Paul) of Singer Island, Fla; seven grandsons: Merlon Lasselle (Cindy), Clint Lasselle (Anne), Stacy Lary (Tonja), Chris Lary (Tasha), Reggie Gamblin (Cathy), Dan Lary (Lyn) and Ryan Gamblin; 14 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Rollins and wife, Beverly of Pittsfield; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband, Murray Gamblin; and siblings: Freeman Rollins Jr., Carlton Rollins, Carl Rollins and Ruth Wells.

A celebration of her life will be held from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, January 12, at the home of Murray and Edith. A graveside service for Murray and Edith will be held in the spring at the Village Cemetery on Peltoma Avenue in Pittsfield.
