Cynthia Lea Witte Holmes
1954 - 2017
PITTSTON - Cynthia Lea Witte Holmes, the daughter of Hubert and Georgia Witte, sister to Deborah and Rebecca, Ohio-born, Maine resident, passed away on Monday evening, Jan. 9, 2017, after a courageous and exhausting battle against her will.
Her interests were usually unusual and constantly growing, ranging from a determination to discover her family's roots, to an appreciation of our nation's history, and volunteering her energy to help the unfortunate.
She loved animals, especially West Highland terriers, and she always made time for God. She was an R.N. of 30-plus years, a published poet and writer, and a proud 2016 USM graduate with a B.S. in leadership and organizational studies.
This was a woman who had every challenge that a daughter/single mother could ever face, yet always knew she was blessed, and offered no excuses, just an unearthly determination to provide for her family. She became a lifelong friend and surrogate mother to anyone who walked through her doors.
It doesn't seem right that our mother, who continuously gave her time, her energy, and her love so effortlessly and so selflessly, would be called to Christ so young.
She is survived by her four sons, Bill and wife Cassie, Gabe, Josh and wife Jackie, and Ben and wife Theresa; and her wonderful, six grandchildren: Jacob, Lil Bill, Miles, Carter, Lizzie and brand new baby girl, Emie; all Holmes' and all "punkers" to her.
As our family continues to grow, her memory will only get stronger, and her legacy lives on.

Mom, your spirit lives in everyone you've touched. Rest now in peace.

Visiting hours will be Monday, Jan. 16, from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal in Gardiner.
