MONMOUTH - Carroll E. Cooper Sr., 81, passed away peacefully on Oct. 30, 2018, at home with his family. He was born on May 12, 1937 in Gardiner, the son of Merle L. and Frances A. (Baker) Cooper.Carroll grew up in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth Academy, and later graduated from the University of Maine, Augusta, with a degree in Agriculture. He joined the U.S. Marines and served for seven years, and later he served as a Lieutenant of the Sea Cadets, in Brunswick. Carroll married Jane Wallace in 1960, in Greene, and were married for 58 Years.He held many jobs over the years, but the one he loved best was being a bus driver for the Town of Monmouth. He and his wife also had a concession stand that they enjoyed taking to many local fairs, together. Carroll belonged to many organizations, including FFA, Monmouth Fair Assoc., Monmouth Grange, Monmouth Fire Dept., and was the first president of the Monmouth Trailblazers Snowmobile Club. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane Wallace Cooper; father, Merle and step-mom, Amy Pettengill, his mother, Frances and step-father, Maurice Clark Sr.; and his brothers, David, JC, and Gene.Carroll is survived by his son, Carroll Jr., his favorite daughter, Kelly and her husband, Michael, and son, Rusty; grandchildren, Corie, Amber, Becca (aka Turkey), Daniel and his long-time lady, Callie, Michael Jr., Josh and his wife, Chelsea; great-grandchildren, Sophie, Jaysea, Jackson, Cody, Abigail, Hailey, Jacob; his siblings, Barbara, Jackie, Cindy, Arthur and his wife, Stella; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, November 5, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop. Burial will follow in the Monmouth Ridge Cemetery.Condolences, memories and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the website at www.familyfirstfuneralhomes.com In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Androscoggin Home Hospice.
