Beverly M. Blunda
1924 - 2018

GORHAM - Beverly M. Blunda, 94, died peacefully on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Ledgewood Manor Nursing Home in Windham.

Beverly was born on May 20, 1924, in Hartland, the daughter of the late George and Lucy (Withee) McNally.

She graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1944, and married Samuel Blunda on Aug. 31, 1946.

Beverly began writing to her future husband Samuel during his service in World War II, marrying after his return from Europe once they finally met and hit it off. She and Sam settled in Pittsfield, where they built a loving home. Beverly was a homemaker who loved to knit and made superior bread and yeast rolls among other culinary delights, stretching the family dollar masterfully.

She was a breast cancer survivor who endured the death of her younger son in 1974, yet never let those events affect her capacity to love. In her 60s, she finally got her driver's license so that she could drive her grandchildren around Pittsfield when they would come to visit in the summer. She was happiest sharing in her grandchildrens' lives.

In later years, she joined her son Peter's household, and helped run the family daycare business, as well as helping to sell blueberries at the roadside stand every August.

She left this world after a long life, and with the love and admiration of far more than her family.

She is survived by her children, Linda Sargent and husband, Jim, of Staunton, Va., Peter Blunda and wife, Barbara, of Gorham, and Suzan Henkel and husband, John, of Ocoee, Fla.; grandchildren, Kate Pickle, James Pickle and wife, Elizabeth, John Blunda and wife, Andrea, Joseph Blunda and fiancée, Kimberly Schelling, Sam Blunda and wife, Amanda, Monica Dull and husband, Ron, Marissa Henkel and husband, Cristian; great-grandchildren: Cameron, Beckett, Hughett, Lyla and Violet.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Samuel Blunda; son, Robert Blunda; siblings, Eugene, Elsief and Gwendolyn; half-siblings, Ivory and Cecil.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 16, 2018, at the Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield, with the Rev. Scott Jones officiating. A gathering will follow at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield. To leave a message of kindness for the family, please visit www.shoreynichols.com.
