Barbara (Stevens) Leavitt
1925 - 2017
ST. ALBANS - Barbara Leavitt, 92, died Nov. 5, 2017, at home, after a battle with cancer. She rests peacefully in the arms of her Lord and Savior.
Barb was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Charleston, the daughter of Archie and Ada (Arnold) Stevens. She graduated from Higgins Classical Institute and secretarial school in Boston. Seventy-one years ago, following World War II, she married the love of her life and soulmate, Dana. She served as a postal clerk in the Town of St. Albans for many years; the last 12 years of her working career as postmaster.
In 1960, Dana and she started Green Acres Farm, located on the Bubar Road in St. Albans, which they operated until retiring in 1985. Barb was one of the founders of the SnoDevils Snowmobile Club and served as treasurer for many years. She was a member of the St. Albans Union Church, where she sang in the choir. Barb and Dana have wintered in Zephyrhills, Fla., for the past 29 years. She loved traveling, playing cards, snowmobiling, camping, fishing and more recently, four-wheeling.
She is survived by a sister, Alice Glover, of Skowhegan; a son, Nolan, and wife Linda Leavitt, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a daughter, Darlene Tompkins, of St. Albans; a foster daughter, Ethel, and husband Darrell Neal, of St. Albans; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Earl and Lester.
A memorial service will be held at the St. Albans Union Church at a time to be announced. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Those who wish, may leave written condolences at:
