BELGRADE LAKES - Stanley Arlington Lord, 92, died peacefully in his home, with family at his side, on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014.
He was born in the same house on Dec. 15, 1921, the son of Earl and Bessie (Ferguson) Lord. Stanley married Naurine Kelley, of Belgrade, on May 29, 1948, and enjoyed 61 years together until her passing on Sept. 22, 2009.
Stanley graduated from Belgrade High School and also from Gates Business College, Augusta, in 1947. As the youngest of three brothers, who all served the country in World War II, Stanley served in the Air Force as an airplane mechanic from 1942 to 1945. He retired from his job as an accountant at the Maine State Retirement System in 1982.
For years, Stanley was an assistant coach for youngsters on Farm League, Little League and Babe Ruth teams, and one year took the team to Quebec for playoffs. He also enjoyed his many vegetable gardens, and was an avid hunter and ice fisherman. Stanley was honored and recognized as the oldest resident of Belgrade this past August.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Earl Lord Jr. and Donald Lord.
He is survived by his son, David F. Lord, and his wife, Cheryl, of Brandon, Fla.; his daughter, Debra "Dee" L. Cooke, and her husband, Carl,of Belgrade; grandsons Jason Cooke and Chris Cooke; and step-grandson Jeremy Arden and his wife, Elizabeth; step-great-grandchildren Jacob, Colton, and Alyssa, of Brandon, Fla.; also a niece, Susan Colby; and a nephew, Peter Lord.
A graveside celebration of Stanley's life will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, Belgrade, in the spring, at a date and time to be announced.
