PITTSFIELD -- Arthur Dewey, 88, died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, in Pittsfield.

Arthur was born on Oct. 1, 1924, in Hartland, the son of the late Leland and Belle Welch. He proudly served our country in the Army during World War II. He married Beverly Webber and they shared 65 years together.

He was employed for many years by Northeast Shoe and the chair factory in Pittsfield. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 32 Burns W. Knowlton Jr. in Pittsfield. He was very instrumental in installing Veterans Memorial Park in Pittsfield.

Arthur was a very active man and had many trade talents. He was known for his knack of finding hundreds of four-leaf clovers. He will be lovingly missed and remembered.

He is survived by his children, Kay Derrick, and her husband, David, of Guntersville, Ala., and Sonny Dewey and his wife, Marie, of Pittsfield; grandchildren: Kevin Derrick and his wife, Penny, and Jeffrey Dewey and his wife, Christine; great-grandchildren: Tisha, Deven, John, Meagan, K.J., Shani', Kelli and Alan; great-great-grandchildren: Noah, Jackson, Cameron, Parker, Brooklyn and Serenity; brothers: Freeman Welch, of Canaan, Alton Welch and wife Barbara, of St. Albans, Francis Welch and wife Barbara, of Madison, and Morris Welch, of Massachusetts; sisters: Lela Welch, of Florida, and Eleanor Lane and husband Ray, of Pittsfield.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Beverly Dewey; a son, Douglas Dewey; sister Madeline Brown; and brothers: Alfred Welch and Don Welch.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, in Pittsfield. A presentation will be given by the Maine Military Honor Guard as well as the American Legion.
