CLINTON -- Iva Stinson, 99, died on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Maine General Medical Center, Thayer campus, in Waterville, following a brief illness. She was born in Canaan on Aug. 8, 1913, the daughter of Abel and Gertrude (Tuttle) Gleason. She attended Canaan and Skowhegan schools and graduated from Skowhegan High School as a member of the class of 1930.

Iva married Lawrence Stinson on Oct. 7, 1940. They settled on the Hill Road in Clinton where they raised their family and together operated a successful plumbing, heating and propane gas business. Mrs. Stinson performed the bookkeeping and administrative functions while her husband performed the technical and construction aspects of the business. She remained at her Hill Road residence until recently when she moved to Park Residences in Waterville. She spent winters in Scottsdale, Ariz.

She was a long-time member of the Clinton Extension Service and participated actively in various activities supporting local community causes. She was a compassionate and caring person who enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and spending time with family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband; her parents; and brothers, Gordon and Vernon.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan Sheehan, and husband John, of Scottsdale; her son, Walter Stinson, and wife Ellen, of Standish; grandchildren: Teresa Moore, of Scottsdale, Richard Moore, of Bangor, Nicholas Stinson and wife Konnie, of Gorham, and Eric Stinson and wife Melissa, of Chester, N.H.; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield.

A celebration of Iva's life will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 at Brown Memorial United Methodist Church, 36 Church St., Clinton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brown Memorial United Methodist Church, Roofing Fund, c/o Jon Whitten, Clinton, ME 04927.
