AUGUSTA -- Roween G. (Violette) Foote, 89, of Augusta died on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care Facility on Glenridge Drive in Augusta, following a long illness.

Roween was born July 20, 1922, in Van Buren, the daughter of Willie "Pete" and Sophie (Thibodeau) Violette. She lived there until the age of 7, at which time the family relocated to Augusta. She attended Augusta schools and graduated from Cony High School in 1939.

In 1942, she married James H. Foote Jr., and they settled in Gardiner, where he worked at the Gardiner Farm and later at Gosline's Dairy. In 1959, they bought the dairy and eventually changed the name to Foote's Dairy, serving the greater Augusta-Gardiner area until 1968.

Roween was an accomplished homemaker and provider and enjoyed painting, cooking, sewing, reading and making jewelry. She took pleasure in collecting coins, dolls and banks. In addition, she was an avid Red Sox fan and also loved to travel. She took many car and bus trips to New Hampshire and Boston with her longtime friend, Arlene Lapointe.

Roween was predeceased by her parents; her husband, James H. Foote Jr.; her son, Lawrence W. Foote; three brothers, Cleo, Duward and Matthew Violette; three sisters, Agnella Larson, Muriel Brown and Aurora Violette; one niece, Melody Hackett; and one nephew, Robert Larson Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Aurella Mollie Violette, of Augusta; two sons, James H. Foote III and wife Almalee, of Readfield, and Michael T. Foote and wife Betsy of Monmouth; two daughters, Cheryl Foote and husband Lee Kimberling, of West Gardiner, and Charlene Godbout and husband Robert, of West Gardiner; two grandsons, James H. Foote IV and wife Suizee, of Lisbon, and Jason Godbout, of West Gardiner; two granddaughters, Tina Chapman, of Winslow and Michelle Godbout, of West Gardiner; two great-grandsons, James Stephen Foote, of South Portland and Connor Chapman, of Winslow; four great-granddaughters, Samantha Foote, of Lisbon, Nicole Foote, of South Portland, Melody Chapman, of Winslow and Emmalyn Kennard, of West Gardiner; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to express gratitude to HealthReach Hospice and the staff at MaineGeneral Glenridge nursing facility for their kindness, compassion and understanding during this difficult time.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 11, at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardiner.
