AUBURN -- Josephine Edith Gay, 94, of Greene, formerly of Livermore Falls, died early Tuesday afternoon, June 15, 2010, at Clover Manor in Auburn.

She was born Dec. 12, 1915, in Blue Grass, Va., a daughter of John and Alice Wimer Colaw. She received her education in New York schools and graduated from DeRuyter High School in 1933.

On June 14, 1938, she married Wilfred Gay, of Livermore Falls.

She worked at Burnham and Morrill Bean Shop, Parker's Lunch, and at the Corner Store in Livermore Falls for several years.

Mrs. Gay was a longtime member of Eaton Memorial United Methodist Church, Livermore Falls-Jay Senior Citizens, Wilton Senior Citizens, Canton Senior Citizens, Senior's Bowling League and the Widow's Club. She was a former 33-year member of the Pythian Sisters and volunteered for R.S.V.P., W.A.A.A., Parkview Nursing Home and the Head Start program for several years.

Mrs. Gay enjoyed crafts; bowling; playing cards, especially Skip-Bo; her flower gardens; and her large collection of teddy bears. She traveled extensively and toured many parts of the United States, Canada, Europe, Bermuda, Mexico and Hawaii.

She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed her family and her wide circle of friends.

She is survived by a daughter, June Franchetti, of Winthrop; a son, Brent Gay and his wife, Celina, of Livermore Falls; five grandchildren, Julie, Terri, Jason, Kevin and Fred; a great-grandson, Tristan; several nieces and nephews; and was looking forward to the October birth of twin great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, in 1987; a son, Lawrence, in 1998; and her six sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 18, at Wiles Remembrance Center, 308 Franklin Road, Jay. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the center. Those who desire may make memorial contributions in Josephine's memory to the charity of one's choice.

Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Livermore Falls.
