DETROIT - Mabel P. Hart, 93, passed away August 4, 2014 at Sanfield Manor in Hartland. She was born January 24, 1921 in Detroit, a daughter of Lewis and Cora (Smith) Norris. She attended schools in Detroit and graduated from Newport High School.
Mabel had been employed at Greeley Farms in Pittsfield, Folsom's Farms in Newport, and Snowflake Canning in Hartland. For several years, she worked for the hot lunch program at the Detroit Elementary School and also babysat for local families until her retirement. She enjoyed feeding and watching her birds and talking with friends and family on the phone. Mabel was Detroit's oldest living resident.
On August 10, 1939, Mabel married Harvey Hart and they raised 3 sons. She is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Ralph and Meredith Hart, and Royce Sr. and Roberta Hart, all of Detroit; 3 grandsons, Scott and Mark Hart of Maine and Royce Hart Jr. of Florida; 7 great grandchildren, Suzy, Kendra, Kristen, and Dustin Hart, all of Maine, Adam, Yasmeen and Griffin Hart, all of Florida; several nieces and nephews. Mabel also leaves behind 6 special friends, Verna Pease, Edith McGinnis, Doris Neal, Mary Sanborn, Joyce Withee and Sheila Withee, all of Detroit.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a son Leroy; 4 siblings, Roland, Linwood, Alvin and Eleanor Norris.
Graveside services will be held 11 A.M. Friday, August 8th, at the Detroit Village Cemetery with Pastor Bob Philbrick of the Clinton Baptist Church officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the
