FARMINGDALE - M. Tieche Shelton Jr., 77, passed away June 21, 2014, at MaineGeneral Medical Center with his wife, son and daughter at his side.
Tieche was born in New Haven, Conn., on Dec. 1, 1936.
He was predeceased by his parents Merriwell Tieche Shelton, M.D. and Mildred (Lambert) Shelton; his sister-in-law Melinda (Hunter) Shelton and brother-in-law George Spencer.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marlene Merry Shelton, on June 13; their two children, M. Tieche Shelton III and his companion, Carolyn Condon, and Elizabeth (Shelton) McNaughton and her husband, Danny McNaughton. Tieche was known as "Grampy" to his grandchildren: D.J. McNaughton and his companion, Shelby Thibeau, Paige McNaughton, Brittney Shelton, Shawna Wells, and to his great-granddaughter Quinn Cotnoir; brother to Robert "Bob" Shelton, M.D. and sister-in law Laraine Spencer; and uncle to two Shelton and four Spencer nieces.
Tieche graduated from Colby College. He went on to be a car sales manager, selling a wide variety of vehicles from Fords to Mercedes. He belonged to the Kora Temple Shrine of Lewiston; Tieche was the potentate in 1982. He was one of the founders of the Sportsmans Alliance of Maine and first executive director. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Tieche had built a rapport with many people throughout the neighboring towns and cities. No matter where he went he knew someone, or made a new friend. Coping with the loss has been best said by a friend of Tieche's, "the world will never be the same." The family is truly thankful for the MaineGeneral Medical Center's critical care unit staff for all they did in those last few days, and all of the friends and family that have been so supportive and sympathetic.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at Staples Funeral Home in Gardiner, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, with a service to follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Kennebec Valley Humane Society.
