MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. - Harley Arnold Coolong, 77, passed away on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at his home. A native of Gardiner, Maine, he was the son of the late Jerry and Ruth Stitham Coolong.
He was a 1955 graduate of Gardiner High School and immediately joined the Air Force where he worked as a jet mechanic. He met and married Velma Holderman Coolong, in Madison, Wis. Harley joined the Air National Guard and served one year before being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 55 years; sons Scott A. Coolong, of Mount Holly, Timothy B. Cooling, of Mount Holly, and Michael T. Coolong and wife Pam, of Stanley; and grandson Noah Coolong.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, Charlotte. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the church, with pastor Mike Barefield officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Salisbury National Cemetery.
