Walter W. Hish Sr.
1933 - 2017
WELLINGTON - Walter W. Hish Sr., 83, of Wellington, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 16, 2017. Born in Westfield, Mass. on Dec. 19, 1933, he was the son of Steven and Julia Hish.
He graduated from the Westfield Massachusetts Vocational High School Class of 1950. He married the former Norma Case in August of 1960 in Westfield, Mass. He was a repairman on refrigeration units for Food Basket in Massachusetts for many years. He also spent a number of years as a carpenter. He served in the US Army for five years and was active duty during the Korean Conflict where he earned many metals including the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans of Bangor.
Walter was a good hunter. He loved spending time in the woods. He grew a great vegetable garden every year and enjoyed sharing with his neighbors.
He is survived by his wife Noma of 56 years of Wellington; one son, Walter W. Hish Jr of Massachusetts.
Visiting hours will be held, Tues. March 21 from 1-2 p.m. at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, with the funeral service following immediately at 2 p.m. Rev. Mark Tanner will be officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
