Theo D. Colello
1929 - 2017
YARMOUTH - Theo D. Colello, 87, of Yarmouth, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017, at her home. She was born in Winthrop on May 2, 1929, the daughter of James E. and Florence (Cressey) Dimond. Theo attended school in Winthrop and South Portland, graduating from South Portland High in 1947. On May 3, 1953 at Holy Cross Church in South Portland, Theo married Mauro "Ray" Colello.
She worked as an insurance underwriter at Maine Bonding & Casualty before becoming a full-time homemaker, mother and active member of the church, school and community. Theo served as a long-time member of American Legion Post 91 Ladies Auxiliary in Yarmouth. She was den mother to numerous scouting troops, including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts. Theo raised her six children in the Catholic faith, and created unique crafts to benefit church fairs for many years at both parishes in Yarmouth and Falmouth. She drew and donated artful decorations for school and community functions. For many years, she volunteered weekly at the Good Cause Thrift Shop in Portland, to raise money for Catherine McAuley High School Scholarships.
Theo enjoyed sewing, bowling, listening daily to WYAR FM in Yarmouth, and all manner of dancing. She practiced tap and baton twirling into her seventies, and exercised daily with free weights until within just a few days of her passing. Always positive, despite the illnesses that eventually claimed her, Theo could charm the birds with her whistling.
Predeceasing Theo are her brother and only sibling, Ernest E. Dimond (1955), and her husband, Ray Colello (2005). She is survived and missed by her six children and their spouses/significant others, Raymond and Deb Colello of Yarmouth, Peter Colello and Penny Megquier of Gray, Ernest and Brenda Colello of Yarmouth, Michael and Danielle Colello of Livermore, Kathy and Bill Guerin, of Bowdoinham, and Donna Colello of Portland; eight grandchildren, Anthony and Ben Colello, Joshua and Cody Colello, Christopher Colello, Adrianna DiBiase, Kate and Cole Guerin; and four great-grandchildren, Delia, Addie and Grady Colello, and Owen Colello.
A graveside service and interment at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop, will be announced at a later date.
