Tade Brooks
1990 - 2017
AUGUSTA - Tade Brooks, 26, beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend, left this world on Feb. 7, 2017.
To say that everyone loved Tade, the family's gentle giant, is an understatement, as his infectious smile and sparkling personality lit up the room. You could count on him to offer bear hugs for all, including family, friends, strangers, and Mr. T, his grandmother Betty's cat that he adored. He was appreciative of family, relishing family get-togethers especially those that featured food. Although cheeseburgers and macaroni and cheese were his favorites, he enjoyed whatever was on the table. He paid attention to the needs of others as well, offering to refill a glass, retrieve a napkin, or replenish a plate.
Growing up, Tade excelled in baseball, participating in Little League, Babe Ruth, and All-Star Teams. He played hockey throughout his school years, from elementary school to high school and beyond. Tade loved fishing, whether it be with his buddy "Bump" Foster along the brooks around Kingsbury Pond , or eagerly awaiting a flag on "hard water" in the dead of winter. He also enjoyed fishing on Togus Pond, his childhood home, hoping to hook the "big bass."
Tade attended Cony High School, graduating in 2008, continuing his education at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle, earning the Most Valuable Player award in hockey at both Cony and NMCC. While in high school, he nurtured his passion for golf, taking time to enjoy it at every opportunity. His dream was to work at a golf course as a greens keeper if he couldn't be the pro.
Tade had a great work ethic, getting his first job at Kmart as soon as he was old enough to apply for a work permit at the age of 15. He most recently worked at Sports Fields Inc. and the family business Brooks Boys.
Tade is survived by his parents, Steve Brooks and Kelly Brooks; brother Ryan and partner Jordan; grandfather Robert "Bump" Foster and grandfather Robert "Grampy" Brooks with whom he enjoyed many trips to the mountains of western Maine. In addition, he leaves behind many aunts and uncles including John Brooks and daughters Christine and Sarah Brooks, Dan Brooks and sons Bennett and Beau Brooks, Jim and Kristy Vickerson and son Robert Vickerson, Bernard and Kim Hallowell and daughters Erica Randall Cunningham and Emily Randall; and cousins Emily Semenchuk, Ben Brooks, Annie Adams and their mother, Susan; lifelong friend Jared Berube; and many extended family and friends.
Tade was predeceased by great-grandmother Doris Campbell, great-grandfather Eursel Campbell; grandmothers Betty Brooks and Dawna Foster Savory; uncle Bob Brooks and aunt Darlene Brooks. He will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know and love him.
Relatives and friends may visit Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church Street, Augusta.
A celebration of Tade's life will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Baptist Church, Rt 202, Manchester and will continue at the Manchester Lions Club following the service.
Burial will be in East Winthrop Cemetery in the spring.
