Stanley A. Gilman
1928 - 2018
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Stanley A. Gilman passed away on March 2, 2018 in Dover-Foxcroft. Born to parents Charles B. Gilman and Ruby Walker, he grew up in Waterville and attended Waterville schools. He also attended the University of Alabama where he met his future wife, Sarah Traynor Gilman.
Stan and Sarah returned to Waterville where they raised their two daughters and made their home. Stan worked for C.F. Hathaway in Waterville until 1968 when he moved to Dover-Foxcroft, where he managed their plant. After his retirement, he enjoyed consulting for C.F. Hathaway in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.
Stan was a proud Eagle Scout, which instilled in him a love of nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and weekends spent with his father, brothers and buddies. Stan and his family spent summers at their beloved camp on Sebec Lake, where he took great pride in creating beautiful lawns, gardens and pathways.
Stan was predeceased by three brothers, Charles of East Millinocket, Sidney of Maywood, N.J, and William of San Francisco, Calif.
In addition to his wife Sarah of 67 years; Stan is survived by daughters, Cathe Dawson, and Linda and Fred Johnston, of Dover-Foxcroft; three granddaughters Sarah Anne Lovell and Andrew Thompson of New York, N.Y., Jessica and Lee Kashka of Arlington, Va. and Stephanie and Matthew Florey of Old Town; and sister-in-law Hazel Gilman of Millinocket.
No services will be held.
