Shirley Mae Watzl
1931 - 2017
SANTA ANA, Calif. - Shirley Mae Watzl passed away peacefully on August 3, 2017 in Santa Ana, Calif. She was the daughter of Clifford and Ruth (Tranten) Peters.
Shirley was born in Anson, Maine on Sept. 26, 1931. She moved to Madison as a very young child and graduated from Madison High School. She married Glenn Viles shortly after graduation and within the year relocated to Torrance, Calif.
When her first marriage ended she met and married the love of her life, Robert Watzl. They shared 48 wonderful years together. They met at a dance class and danced together through life. Through the dance group they made so many lasting friends. Robert and Shirley were very accomplished dancers and a joy to watch.
They both had a love of traveling starting with their first cruise to celebrate Shirley's 50th Birthday through the Panama Cannel, they were hooked. Between cruises and tours they enjoyed visiting so many countries. As soon as they returned home from a trip, Shirley would be looking at travel magazines to see where they would go next.
Besides her loving husband, Robert, she is survived by her daughters, Gayle Slevin, Ruth Ann and Chuck Coburn, and one son, Gary Viles; grandchildren, Camille, Ashley, Thomas and Rhianon; great-grandchildren, Juliet, Leo, Makenzie, MyKayla and Connor. Shirley is also survived by one sister, Faylene Hay and her seven children, Steven, Ardis, Michael, Bryan, Bill, Scott and Sharon. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two grandchildren, Reyes and Glenn Slevin.
Shirley loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally and enjoyed spending time with them, especially on holidays.
Shirley will be missed by her family and friends but never forgotten as we are blessed with the gift of memories of time spent together.
Services were held at Forest Lawn, Covina, Calif.
