Ruth Brown
1917 - 2017
ATHENS - Ruth Brown, 100, of Fox Hill Road, was called home to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 16, 2017. Ruth was born on Jan. 15, 1917, in Austad, Norway, a daughter of Theodore and Eva Russell Nilsen.
In 1951, Ruth and her brother, Timon, came to the United States and settled in Skowhegan. She married Daryl Brown, a widower with five children. Ruth sold milk, and helped to be a caretaker of people who were ill in addition to being a homemaker. She was a life long member of the Skowhegan Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed flower arranging for the church every Sunday as well as cooking. Ruth loved her animals, her dog and cats and cows.
She was predeceased by her parents; and husband. Survivors include her stepchildren, Cathy, Daryl Jr. and David; nephews, Tim and Libby and Byron Nilsen, Mark Nilsen and son, Justin; sister-in-law, Joan Nilsen, brother, Paul and wife Olga and sister, Judith living in Norway with many other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 4 at 6:00 p.m. at the Skowhegan Church of the Nazarene, 31 East Madison Rd., Skowhegan.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Tissues Country Estates for the love and quality care given to Ruth in the time she spent with them. Arrangements by Funeral Alternatives, Lewiston.
