Norma G. Foster
1929 - 2017
WATERVILLE - Norma G. Foster, of Waterville, formerly of Shawmut, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017. She was born in Fredericton NB, Canada on Nov. 11, 1929. Norma was the daughter of Maurice and Dorothy (Golding) Phillips.
She graduated from Fredericton Junction High School, moved to Maine in 1950, and later attended Accounting classes at the University of Maine in Augusta. She was employed as Office Manager for Ace Tire Company in Waterville for 32 years before retiring in 1993.
A member of the Shawmut Chapel and its Board of Deacons, she served as Treasurer and Clerk (20 years), taught Sunday School (10 years), sang alto in the church choir and served (at various times) as President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Willing Workers women's auxiliary.
Norma enjoyed walking at Colby, aerobics and golfing. She was a member of Lakeview Golf Club in Burnham, and much to her surprise won a couple of tournaments! Since May 2008, she was a resident of Lake-wood Continuing Care Center in Waterville. The family is grateful that she received such outstanding care from Dr. Knausenberger, the nurses and all of the staff on Moonlight Bay.
She was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, William F. (Joe) Foster; brother Byron Phillips; sister Edrie M. and her husband Kingsley J. Kingston, of Fort Fairfield; and sister-in-law Miriam Phillips, of Tracy, NB. Willis C. Libby of Benton, to whom she was married for 24 years, also predeceased her.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ruth Phillips, of Tracy, NB, Canada; two sons Errol C. Libby and wife Pamela of Norway, and the Rev. Dr. Glenn M. Libby of Los Angeles, Calif.; grandsons James M. Libby of Norway, and Peter V. Libby and his wife Amanda of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepson Lawrence J. Foster and his wife Mary Jo of Jackman, and their sons Jacob Foster and his daughter Ellie of Augusta, Derek Foster, his wife Kerrie and their son Camden of Vassalboro; step daughter Cynthia J. Foster and her daughter Mattie E. Lajoie of Winslow; along with beloved nieces, nephews, and many devoted friends and relatives from both Canada and the United States.
The Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 27, 2017, at the Shawmut Chapel, 57 Bray Ave., Shawmut ME 04975. The visiting hours will be on Friday May 26, 2017, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, ME. 04937.
