Nelson G. Fortin
1925 - 2017
SKOWHEGAN - Nelson G. Fortin, 92, of Skowhegan , passed away on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at Cedar Ridge Center in Skowhegan, following a brief illness.
Nelson was born in Ste. Anne Parish, Canada, on July 25, 1925, a son of Francis and Alice Fortin. He moved to Bingham as a child and was educated in the local schools.
He worked for Frank Brochu as a truck driver for 35 years. After his retirement he worked in Rumford as a security guard for several more years.
Nelson was a very social man who enjoyed meeting new people. He liked to go for long rides in the country and enjoyed going out to eat. He was well loved and will be truly missed.
He is survived by his companion for the past 15 years, Nola Steward of Bingham, her children, Lisa White and her husband David of Cornville, Julie Proctor and her husband Tom of Moscow and Tammy Steward of Bingham. He is also survived by a sister, Pauline Heath of New Port, Vt. and a brother, Arthur Fortin and his wife Joanne of Bingham; special nephews, Bert Williams of Vermont and Darrell Fortin and his wife Bonnie of Bingham, as well as several other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in Robinson Memorial Cemetery in Moscow.
