Maxine M. Gichel
1938 - 2018
GARDINER - Maxine M. Gichel, 80, of Gardiner, died Wednesday April 11, 2018, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
She was born in Winthrop, Jan. 2, 1938, the daughter of Elwin and Hazel (Berry) Crocker. She grew up in Winthrop and attended school there. She worked for a short time at Lipman Poultry before starting her family. In 1978 she married Frederick Gichel.
Maxine enjoyed crocheting, plastic canvas, going to Popham Beach, fairs and casinos and especially cooking her famous apple pie and molasses cookies.
Maxine was predeceased by two daughters, Leona Swanson and Debra Holt.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; her sons, Junior Bowler of Gardiner, Billy Jo Bowler and his girlfriend Kelly Randall of Mt. Vernon, Jerry Bowler and his wife Rachel of Monmouth and Terry Bowler and his wife Nancy of Sebastion, Fla., her daughters Holly Gichel and her companion Rick Cyr of Augusta, Rosemary Bowler of Chelsea, Linda Philbric and her husband Bruce of Hampton, N.H., Eunice Bowler of Readfield, Maxine Bowler of Winthrop and Brenda Warren of Chesterville; a special granddaughter Rosie Gaither; good friend Penny Lucas; many grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at a later date.
