1920 - 2018
WINTHROP - Doris, 97, of The Villages, Fla., formerly of Old Town and Winthrop, passed on April 3, 2018.
She was born in Burnsville, New Brunswick, Canada, in 1920, daughter of George and Elizabeth (Guitard) Godin. She moved to Maine as a baby and attended Old Town schools. She lived most of her life in Old Town, and worked for T.M. Chapman in Old Town, and Chapman Precision in Bangor. She was married to Carroll Dean, the father of her two sons, and years later to Lawrence Cyr.
Doris loved music, singing, camping, bingo, books, and watching all sports. She was a big fan of the Red Sox, Tiger Woods, and Arnold Palmer. She liked watching great-grandchildren play sports and blossomed later in life, learning to drive at the age of 58.
In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence J. Cyr; her granddaughter, Kimberly Simpson; siblings Imelda Guptill, Leo Goodin, Mary Rose Hughes, Florence Currier, Joseph Godin, Emile Godin, Alphonse Godin, G. Robert Godin, Richard Godin, and Bernice Laflamme.
Doris is survived by her sons, John C. Dean and wife Carol of The Villages, Fla. and Jeffrey C. Dean of Florida; grandson Kevin Simpson and wife Jennifer, great-granddaughter Hailey Young and great-grandson Gregory Simpson in Maine; grandchildren Thomas and Michael Dean of New Jersey, Christian Dean and wife Ixa and great-grandsons Ayden and Zachary Dean of Tennessee; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Doris will be interred at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta at a later date.
