Madeline (Burke) Macomber
1935 - 2018
WEST GARDINER - Madeline (Burke) Macomber, of West Gardiner and Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away peacefully, May 3, 2018, in Florida, where she wintered with Wayne, her husband of 61 years. In her final days, she was surrounded by family and friends, who prayed her out of this world and into the next.
Madeline was born to Beatrice and George Burke, of Randolph, Maine, on Sept. 4, 1935. She was one of ten children. She lived in Randolph and graduated from Gardiner High School. Madeline married Wayne, of Pittston, on Feb. 23, 1957, and raised two children, Randall and Beth.
She is remembered fondly for many things, one of which was her green thumb, being an incredible cook who made the most fantastic fudge and other delicious treats, her artistic and creative ability in making crafts, and self-teaching herself to play many musical instruments such as the piano, accordion, guitar and the harmonica while entertaining her family with song and singing.
She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend you could possibly ask for, who loved her family and grandchildren with deep dedication and was a constant help to others. But perhaps most memorable, was Madeline's love of God and her devotion to her faith. Through her own faith, she was a guiding light to everyone she met and indeed was instrumental in increasing heaven's numbers.
Madeline is predeceased by her parents, Beatrice and George, of Randolph; and her siblings, Catherine Cook, Mary Millett, Anna Floyd, Vincent Burke, Connie Panageas, Hubert Burke, and Frank Burke.
Madeline is survived by her husband of over 61 years, Wayne, of West Gardiner and Zephyrhills; her son, Randall Macomber, of West Gardiner and his three daughters, Kim and husband, Dan Paradee, of Brunswick, Kate and husband, Bradon Martin, of West Gardiner, and Kelly Macomber, also of West Gardiner; her daughter, Beth and husband, Patrick Nugent, of Newton, N.J., and their two daughters, Danielle and Gabrielle Nugent, also of Newton, N.J.; brother, Lawrence and wife, Barbara Burke, of West Gardiner; and sister, Francis and husband, Tom Galvani, of Whitefield; along with several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gardiner, May 26, at 9 a.m. Interment will follow at West Gardiner Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
