ATHENS - Lois R. (Clarke) White, 89, of Standish, formerly of Athens, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Feb. 2, 2018, in Scarborough. She was born Oct. 23, 1928, in Brattleboro, Vt., the daughter of William H. Clarke and Doris (Sequin) Clarke.
She graduated Valedictorian from St. Michael's High School in Brattleboro, Vt., in the class of 1946.
She married Robert A. White on May 2, 1949, in Brattleboro. They spent 47 years together before his passing in 1996.
Lois started out working in her father's insurance business in Brattleboro. She went on to work at Dunham's Shoe Manufacturing in Brattleboro as a secretary for 15 plus years, she then went to work for Harding's Maple Syrup in Athens making candies for many years. During the 70's and 80's she owned and operated the White's Greenhouse in Athens.
She was a member of the Athens Victory Club. Lois had a real passion for growing flowers and trees. She enjoyed hunting and fishing, and going to camp. In later years she loved things that cheered her up; a joke, watching birds at feeder, watching cats play, windmills and sitting in the sun.
