Leona F. Carter Quimby
1929 - 2017
NORRIDGEWOCK - Leona F. Carter Quimby "Nonie", 87, of Norridgewock, passed away on, March 6, 2017, after a short stay at Maple Crest Living Center in Madison.
She was born on May 17, 1929, in Anson to William and Nellie "Dawes" Carter, deceased. She was the youngest of five children.
As a young girl Leona lived in Anson. Upon the passing of her Dad she moved to Stark's to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Aggie and Stan Adams. She was educated in Anson, Stark's, and Madison schools.
On July 19, 1948, she married the love of her life, Jonathan P. Quimby, in Madison. Leona loved her life as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was the happiest while caring for her home and family. Humming or whistling as she went along. Leona enjoyed her many years as a greeter at the Norridgewock Baptist Church along with many friendships made there. Leona was also a well respected member of the Somerset Grange. She was a blue ribbon winner for her many crocheted pieces she entered in fair displays through the Grange. Many homes are adorned with the beautiful doilies made by Leona.
Leona is survived by her four children and their spouses: son Bill and his wife Linda, daughters Lin and her husband Reed Welch, Debbie and her husband Kirk Heald, Susie and her husband Kirk Butterfield; eight grandchildren Julie and her husband Chad Luce, Chris Quimby and companion April Raymond, Heather and her husband Mike Betts, Alison Quimby and fiancee Billy Weatherford, Jon Butterfield and his wife Kristen, Amanda Butterfield and fiancee Josh Moore, Kim and husband Eric Nutting and Jeff Butterfield and wife Taylor; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Zackary, Tabor, Amber, Kelsie, Harlee, Mikey, Alissa, Lyla, Owen, Lauryn, Cole, Olivia, Brooklyn, Lincoln and Emersyn; three nephews Rod and Sam Adams, Ricky Soule along with their families.
Leona is predeceased by her husband John in 1987; grandson James Welch; brother Lawrence, sisters Micky and Angie Adams, Dot Soule and nephew David Adams.
