Larry H. Malmsten
1943 - 2017

WINTHROP - Larry H. Malmsten, 73, of Winthrop, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at the MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was born in Winchester, Mass., Nov. 12, 1943, the son of Harry and Rena (Fuller) Malmsten.

While Larry was born in Massachusetts, he and his father had a strong love for Maine. Owning property along Annabessacook Lake, they had many camps where water skiing and airplanes were a daily occurrence. Pine Cone Lodge Camps went on for many years, until they decided it was time to get into the camping business.

For many years site work and construction happened, but in order to build it, he had to fund it. Taking winters to build houses from Massachusetts to Presque Isle, and trips to Florida where professional water skiing took priority. He brought back those skills to Winthrop teaching kids and adults to water ski. He left behind a huge family of camp friends for the 40-plus years he ran Augusta West Kampground. Larry enjoyed spending time at Sugarloaf, fast cars, heavy machinery, boats and all things aviation.

Larry is survived by his children, Kale Malmsten, and his wife Brittany, of Winthrop; Andrea Lindmark, and her husband Brian, of Reading, Mass.; and Bridget Spofford, and her husband Richard, of Boothbay; his fiancée, Marianne Goranson; his grandchildren, Payson Malmsten, Tyler, Brendan, Zachary and Lauren Lindmark, and Emily and Jared Spofford; his great-granddaughter, Bristol Spofford; and his cousin, Charlie Malmsten, and his wife Rita, of Kingston, N.H.
