Kenneth Harris Munroe
1926 - 2016
AUGUSTA - Kenneth Harris Munroe, 90, of Augusta, died on June 10, 2016. He passed peacefully after a long, full, active life.
He was born in Boston, Mass. on Jan. 24, 1926 to Carmen Harris Munroe and Willard Noble Munroe. He was raised in Auburn and attended Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1943. Kenneth attended Bates College for a year, joined the Navy, and graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1950 with a degree in Naval Engineering. He later received his MS in Industrial Engineering through the Air Force.
Kenneth married Sally Jane Crosby in 1952 and they raised their four children in Auburn. Ken adored his family and together they enjoyed camping, skiing, tennis, playing the piano, motorcycling, and golf. He established his own advertising business where he did technical marketing for Maine companies. Later, after retirement, he became a realtor and substitute teacher.
Kenneth was well loved by all his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His sense of humor and quick wit will be sorely missed by many. He was always there for his children, helping with school and sports. He also was a wonderful grandfather, teaching his grandchildren to play chess while he babysat. He also was an avid reader and loved studying history.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Sally; his daughter Kerry Munroe, his son Rusty Munroe (Kenneth Jr.) and his wife Christine, his daughter Melissa Hatch and her husband Peter, and his daughter Jennifer Trafton and her husband Steve; his grandchildren Brian, Kelsey, Eric, Lindsey, Harry, Karl, Thomas and Alexander.
His family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring people at Glenridge Long Term Memory Care and Maine General Hospice.
A private family graveside service will be held.
