Katherine Ann Thimble Bearce
1953 - 2018
SOMERVILLE - Katherine Ann Thimble Bearce, 64, passed away on Jan. 8, 2018, in Augusta, peacefully and without pain after a 6-month battle with cancer. Katherine passed with her son and daughter by her side.
Katherine was born in Watertown, N.Y. to Doris and Robert Thimble on Sept. 2, 1953. Katherine was raised by Doris and her second husband, Joseph Poisson, in Biddeford. Katherine graduated from Biddeford High School in 1970. Katherine then served in the Army for a short time. In 1980 she met her future husband, Daniel Everett Bearce. They were married in 1983 and then had two children, Joseph Everett and Jessica Joyce. In 1983 they moved to Frye Road in Somerville, Maine. They then lived there for the next 21 years. In 2005 they moved only a few miles, remaining in Somerville, where Daniel continues to live.
Katherine spent much of her working career as a special education tech at Somerville and Palermo schools. She worked 1 on 1 with many students with special needs. Katherine spent many years in these two schools and influenced many children's lives. She was known only as Kate in the schools, not Mrs. Bearce.
Katherine then retired due to her husband's physical ailments but was unable to remain away from the school setting. Katherine then spent time cooking at Somerville School. This lasted only a short time and Katherine then fully retired to spend time with her family.
Katherine spent much of her leisure time with her grandchildren. Katherine loved watching their sporting events, playing with them outside, and any time she spent doing silly things with them. Katherine also loved gardening, growing flowers, and spending time with her many pets.
Katherine is survived by her husband, Daniel Everett Bearce of Somerville; her son Joseph Everett Bearce, his wife, Monique Marie Bearce and their two children, Aleeya and Avry of Windsor; her daughter Jessica Joyce Bearce Mathews, her husband Jacob Norman Mathews, and their six children, Alexia, Katie, Grace, Caroline, Charlotte, and Johnathan of Whitefield; her stepson Jacob Daniel Bearce, his wife, Misti Annalee Bearce and their five children Brandon, Dustin, Anna, Sophia and Sawyer of Waterville; her sister Gail Thimble LeSieur of Biddeford.
A special thank you to Jeffrey and Joanna Bearce for all that you did for Katherine in her final few days. The time you both spent were more important and more valuable than words can express.
Katherine asked that in her obituary, a special message be written to all of her family and friends, Thank you and I love you all.
A service and celebration of life gathering will be held in the spring.
