Josephine Frances Dunn

AUGUSTA - Josephine Frances Dunn, 99, of Hospital Street, died June 11, 2017, at the Augusta Center for Health & Rehabilitation after a short illness. She was born in Augusta on March 13, 1918, the daughter of Pawel Maskewich and Daria (Bilida) Maskewich.
Josephine was educated in Augusta schools and graduated from Cony High School. She later received an associate degree from Gates Business School. Josephine spent her younger years raising four rambunctious boys and later she worked for Brewers Dairy as a bookkeeper/secretary for 21 years. She then worked at St. Mary's Rectory as a cook initially and later as a secretary for over 20 years. She finally retired at the ripe young age of 92.
She was a devout communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. She was President and Past President of the Maine Council of Catholic Women and a longtime member and President and Past Regent of St. Agnes Circle Daughters of Isabella.Josephine was a member of various other church groups and also volunteered at the Togus VA Hospital.
She lived her life to the fullest and especially was willing to help anyone at any time. Josephine always saw the good in people. She was well known for her home baked pies that she donated to various causes, as well as being an avid New England Patriots fan. She was also known for her frequent hugs that she gave to everyone she met.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas I. Dunn in 1987; and a son, Thomas J. Dunn in 2010. Surviving are three sons, Dr. James P. Dunn and wife Juanita of Manchester, William J. Dunn and wife Gail of Augusta, Lawrence W. Dunn and wife Elizabeth of Dover, N.H., daughter-in-law Diane Dunn of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Mary Orff of Epsom, N.H.; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Jared, Jordanne, Jeffrey, Joshua, Robert, Lauren, Stephen; four great-grandchildren, Hope, Scottie, Anna, Rose; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday June 16 at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where members of the Daughters of Isabella are asked to meet at 2 p.m. for a prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday June 17 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave, Augusta. Condolences, photos and memories may be shared at
