Joan Gray Rich
1929 - 2018
BELGRADE - Joan Gray Rich, 88, of Belgrade, passed away Friday Jan. 5, 2018, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation, Glenridge in Augusta.
Joan was a life-long resident of the Kennebec County area. She was born in Augusta June 29, 1929, the daughter of Stanley F. and Audrey (Snare) Gray. She attended local schools as well as Kent's Hill School from 1946-1947. She was employed with the traffic division of New England Telephone as an Operator for 20 years. She was also a supervisor in the Telecommunications Division, Administration Department of the State of Maine, retiring in 1992. She was the former owner of the Village Yarn Shop in Manchester and attended craft shows in the local area. She enjoyed camping at the West Forks and researching history and genealogy.
Over the years, Joan belonged to many organizations, including the Telephone Pioneers of America, Organizer of the IBEW of Maine, PTA, Past President of the Mothers Club, AARP, Louden Hill Community Club, American Legion Post 6 Auxiliary, MOCA, Central Maine Crafters Association and the Manchester Community Church Sunday School.
Joan is survived by her son Ronald (Moochie) Rich and his wife Nancy West of Mount Vernon, her daughters Donna McLaughlin and her partner Ike McLaughlin of Gardiner, Brenda Verrill and her partner Gary Heald of West Gardiner, Jeannie Rich and her partner Angelo Kazouris of Mount Vernon, and Susan Towle and her husband Ronnie of Belgrade; along with several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and cousins.
At Joan's request, there will be no visitation or funeral. Burial will be in the spring in the Hallowell Cemetery.
Joan's family would like to thank the staff at Glenridge for the wonderful care she received there.
