J. Leo LaChance
1926 - 2018
HALLOWELL - J. Leo LaChance, 91, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Mt. St. Joseph Nursing Home, Waterville, where he stayed, briefly, following a long illness. He was born in Augusta on July 1, 1926, a son of the late Joseph P. and Louise (Theriault) LaChance.
Mr. LaChance was a graduate of Cony High School and Gates Business College in Augusta. He was a US Navy Veteran, serving during World War II. Mr. LaChance had been employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 20 years. He had previously worked for Central Maine Power for 15 years.
He was a member of the Calumet Club for over 50 years, served as President for a year with the Kennebec Valley Credit Union where he also served on various committees, was a School Board Member and Teacher at St. Augustine School, was an Altar Server and Lecter at St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of Abnaki Council #334 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus and Abnaki Assembly # 348 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Mr. LaChance was predeceased by a son, Robert David LaChance; a grandson, Seth M. LaChance; and two brothers, Norman and Roger LaChance.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Arlene M. (Danforth) LaChance of Hallowell; a son Donald L. LaChance and his wife Ruth of Hallowell, a daughter-in-law Claudia LaChance of Augusta; a brother Emile LaChance of Hallowell, two sisters Marie Louise LaChance of Augusta and Yvette Richards of Gardiner; five grandchildren, Lindsay LaChance, Robert "RJ" LaChance, Kelly LaChance, Lisa Lessard and Lori LaChance; a great-grandchild;a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit from 9 - 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at noon in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
